Every time I open Everything, it prompts to update the database, which is a waste of time. Can I update it manually?

Everything 1.4 can take a long time to update the database if there has been many changes to your file system.

Please try launching Everything with the -no-db command line option:
Everything.exe -no-db

With -no-db, Everything will perform a fresh re-index on startup which might be faster than updating the existing database.

Try the Everything 1.5 alpha.
Everything 1.5 will update the database in the background while you can search the existing database.
Note: Only English is currently supported
