I am very frustrated - I have tried everything I can think of - but the other day, for some reason, ebooks with the extension .mobi, .azw, .azw3, and .djvu stopped being found. Even if I do a search for *.mobi - it comes up with nothing.
I didn't change anything (before that). I have been trying to fix it since. The best thing I could think of - is something got changed in the filters.
Not sure what to do - the first thing I tried (since then I have been trying to figure out any other possible solution - but this seems like it ought to work) - was to add to the list for the Document filter: ;epub;mobi;azw;azw3;djvu;
Epubs are being picked up. But other than PDFs - none of the others are now being found. I was out of date with my version - so I installed the latest version - hoping that with a new install - this would go away. But it has carried over to the new installation (new version).
I am totally confused - and very frustrated. I hope someone can provide me the solution.
Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
First guess: you enabled a search option under Menu:Search.
Make sure only Everything is enabled (so no Match Path, etc)
You can also check the statusbar as i will show if you have a filter, a search option enabled or opened an EFU file.
Double-clicking those - if enabled - will reset them to default.

Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
Very strange. I have now gotten it to recognize .mobi. I put it into the Document list. And it is now working (but I tried that before and it wouldn't work). I also created an ebook filter - I tried ext:epub;mobi - and now got it to work. I then add pdf to it - and it gets all three. But if I add azw3 - none of them show up.
Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
So, let's see if I understood:
With the Everything filter enabled:
if you search for, you find files.
if you search for, you find NO files?
(please also report the searches you used)
With the Everything filter enabled:
if you search for
ext:epub;mobi;pdf
if you search for
ext:epub;mobi;pdf;azw3
(please also report the searches you used)
Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
Using the searches you just provided
The first: ext:epub;mobi;pdf - is now finding all three formats.
But the second: ext:epub;mobi;pdf;azw3 - only finds the same three as above - and no azw3.
I have also tried to get it to find djvu and azw - and neither of them work.
But I did a bit more experimenting - and I realized that even though the default Document list includes chm files and docx files - it doesn't find them either.
I also created (which is what I set out to do originally) a custom filter for ebooks - so I would not get the folders like when I use everything or document filters. It now works - with those three epub;mobi;pdf - but if I add the other two or one of them - they are still completely missing from the results. And doing an ext:azw3 comes up with nothing. Some with ext:djvu.
But ALSO when I try ext:chm and ext:docx - I get nothing (yet I have TONS of Word documents - and a number of CHM files).

Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
Those files might be on a drive or in a folder that is not indexed by Everything.
But if you saw those files i the past, that doesn't seem likely.
Try a Force Rebuild:
- Go to Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes
- Press the Force Rebuild button
- Press OK
- Check the Everything statusbar to see when re-indexing is done
- Try searching again
(My idea was to make it work in the search bar and when all is OK, save that search as a Filter (Menu:Search > Add to Filters...))

Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
I must not have sent the follow up below - I thought I did - but I'll leave it at the bottom of my reply to your last suggestion.
I did the rebuild.
With nothing in the search bar - it comes up with 433,160 objects. But that includes only the three file types we have been discussing - pdf, epub, mobi - nothing else - except for the folders.
When I switch to the Document filter - it comes up with 124,809 objects - having excluded the folders. But only pdf, epub, and mobi - none of the other extensions that are in the default filter. I get the same result using my custom Ebooks filter.
So I then checked something I hadn't before. I try the other filters. With nothing in the search bar - I try Audio, Compressed, Executable, Picture and Video - and they all come up empty. I try adding the letter "a" to the search bar - and none of those find any files at all.
The only other filter that is producing results - is the Folder filter. Both when I leave it blank and when I put "a" into the search bar.
I am very confused.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to follow up - if this may help - I have now tried simply searching a single directory. If I open the directory in windows explorer - it returns a total of 424 files. Included in them are mostly PDF, EPUB and MOBI files (in that folder - only one MOBI file) - but it also finds one AZW file and five djvu files. Adding up - correctly - to 424.
If I search in Everything - using the Document filter - it finds 417 files (thus the 7 files of the other two formats are not being found) - when adding the 7 you get the correct number of 424.
If I switch filters to Everything - I get 418 objects as the result - because I have a folder in it as well. So it finds the folder and the three formats - but none of the others.
If I use my custom Ebooks filter - which I have set to search for ext:epub;mobi;pdf;azw;djvu - it also only comes up with the same 417 as the Documents filter finds. It doesn't see the azw or the djvu files.
If I put nothing in the search bar - but switch to the Document filter - I get a large number of files - but only those three formats: epub, mobi, and pdf.
Yet I am using the default set of extensions - but adding at the end three more - epub, mobi, azw3
ext:c;chm;cpp;csv;cxx;doc;docm;docx;dot;dotm;dotx;h;hpp;htm;html;hxx;ini;java;lua;mht;mhtml;odt;pdf;potx;potm;ppam;ppsm;ppsx;pps;ppt;pptm;pptx;rtf;sldm;sldx;thmx;txt;vsd;wpd;wps;wri;xlam;xls;xlsb;xlsm;xlsx;xltm;xltx;xml;epub;mobi;azw3
And it find all of my PDFs and all of my MOBI and EPUBs - but none of the AZW3s - or even any of the other formats from the default list. So no CHMs, no DOCs, no DOCXs, no PPT, or XLS, no RTFs, no XML files - TXT files are even not showing up.

Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
That is strange, indeed.
Did you configure anything (inclusion or exclusion) under Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes > Exclude?
To make sure, also check the settings for your drive:
(That is all for me today, as it is past midnight on my side of the planet)

To make sure, also check the settings for your drive:
- Go to Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes > NTFS
- In the Local NTFS volumes: box, click on your drive
- Is there anything configured in the Include only: field for that volume?

Re: Ebook formats are No Longer Showing - but were before
Thanks so much for all your help. That was the problem - when I was trying (for my first time) to create a custom filter for ebooks - that would exclude folders - I typed three formats into the Include only files box under Exclude.
I cleared it out - and now that has solved the problem.
I never would have figured it out without your help.
Thank you so much.

You're welcome!
Don't forget to add CBR and CBZ to your list
(a longer list of ebook formats can be found here. Not all might be useful to you, though).
