A PDF file make everthing crash

Post by deepbluefantasy »

Recently when I use content search function in everything, the program just crashed. After trying many times, I found the reason is one pdf file. When this file is in the search range, it will cause crash while using content search funcioon.

I don't know it is just this pdf will cause it or this kind of pdf will cause it. Actually, I can't see any peculiarity in this file.

You can download the pdf I talked about by this link:https://chenxiuzhu.lanzous.com/ikzrGi1z3eb

Your link is useless for english speaking poeple.
Everything uses any installed IFilter to read PDF contents.
So you may have problems with your PDF software, whatever it is.
Can you find the contents of this PDF using Windows indexer ?

I've downloaded the file and used the Everything content search with no problems.

  1. Make sure you are using a recent version of Everything.
  2. If you are using Adobe Reader, make sure you are running Everything as a regular user (= NOT as administrator) [1]
There are issues with Adobe Reader when run as administrator (not Everything's fault).
[1]
- Enable Everything Service
- Disable Run as administrator

Both settings can be found under Menu:Tools > Options > General

I have updated to latest version and tried many times as people's suggestions, but it didn't work. So far, only this pdf file causes the problem. I guess it is a bug that is hard to find. Thank you all!

(I'll just "me too".
No issue with Preview.
Win10 (no idea what version)
Everything 1.4.1.965 x86 with the service
And I'll assume that it is Win10's handler & not some other that is generating the preview.)

What program do you use to view PDF files? Adobe Reader? SumatraPDF? Foxit Reader? Nitro PDF? ...
(and what version?)
It might be a bug in your PDF viewer program.

The question is not what tool you use for displaying PDFs.
There may be some IFilter installed and Everything will use this for content access.
The Nirsoft tool SearchFilterView can show you what IFilter is installed for .pdf files.

I have TetPDFIFilter installed, may be you can give it a try.
