can't find a file in everything which clearly exists

I have a number of text files, titled "Hello 2017", "Hello 2018", "Hello 2019". Yesterday I opened Hello 2019 and saved it as Hello 2020 in the same directory, then modified it a bit.

Now when I search for "Hello txt" I can see all of them except for Hello 2020. When I search for Hello 2020 (or even Hello 202) there's no results. I can clearly see the file in my E drive, in the same folder that Hello 2019 is in.

Please make sure no search options are checked under the Search menu (eg: uncheck match case, uncheck match whole words, uncheck regex)

Please make sure the Everything filter is active under the Search menu.

Please make sure these files are not excluded from Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

The Everything Service may have stopped, please make sure Everything is installed correctly:

• In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the General tab on the left.
• Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
• Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
• Uncheck Run as administrator.
• Click OK.
• Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
• Restart Everything.

If all else fails, please try forcing a rebuild:

• In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the Indexes tab on the left.
• Click Force Rebuild.
• Click OK.

Fixed! It's funny, most of the options you mentioned were already what you suggested they should be. But while I was there I turned on, start at startup. Then exited settings, and problem solved. Not sure why that would change anything? But anyway, all good.

PS - random question.

In the Search dropdown there's various filters I can apply, Audio, Document etc. When I click Everything it gives me 471K objects. All the other selections give me less. But the last option is 'compaq' and when I click on that I get the exact same 471K objects (the exact same number). What is this? Is this supposed to be in the default categories or did I accidentally add it?

I went to Search / Organize Filters / Compaq / Edit to see it and there the only thing is the 'enable path' box is checked, nothing else mentioned except the name.

Also, what's the difference between a filter and a bookmark? They both seem to have the same result. ie I can do a search for 'txt' and that can become either a filter or a bookmark. I dont see a diff?

It is not a default filter. You might have added it by accident?

To remove this filter:

• In Everything, from the Search menu, click Organize filters....
• Select compaq.
• Click Delete.
• Click OK.

Bookmarks are similar to filters in that they can save a search.
Bookmarks add the ability to save the filter, sort, view and index.

Only one filter can be active at a time.
Bookmarks must be opened.
