Everything Search not opening on win10

Post by vidweb »

Hi,

I have never had any problems with running Everything Search on my pc.

I love using it and have for many years.

Now all of a sudden, it will not work at all.

I have downloaded the latest version 1.4.1.932 64 bit as I am running win 10.

I fully uninstalled the previous version on my pc and installed this latest update.

It installs okay, but will not even run at all, it doesn't even open. I have also tried using the Administrator function.

Please help.

Thank you.

Thanks for the bug report.

Is your anti-virus software blocking Everything from running?

Please try launching Everything in debug mode:
  • From a command prompt (right click the start menu and click command prompt), navigate to C:\Program Files\Everything:
    CD C:\Program Files\Everything
  • Launch Everything with the -debug command line option:
    Everything.exe -debug
  • What is shown in your command console?
You should see something like:

Code: Select all

Everything
Version 1.4.1.933 (x64)
Windows NT 6.1
Processors 8
IsAdmin 1
AppData 0
Service 0
cmdline "C:\dev\Everything-1.4\x64\Release\Everything.exe" -instance 1.4
load localization
ole initialize: 00000000
create mutex
sys img list 0000000000246680 0000000000249b50 1 0
default font MS Shell Dlg 2 -11
load everything icon
bookmarks
filters
search history
set hook
create tray
db_load
...

So after you "run" it, "Everything.exe" does not show up in Windows Task Manager?

Hi therube,

Thanks.

No, it is not showing up in the Windows Task Manager - Processes.

However, it is showing up under Services - but it says "stopped" - I tried to start it with right click and I get this error message.

Thanks
Ken

Please double check your spelling, it should be:
CD C:\Program Files\Everything

Followed by:
Everything.exe -debug

Hi,

My bad :)

I have entered the correct parameters and still nothing.

I clicked to open Everything and used Administrator function - still doesn't open and doesn't feature in Processes.

Are you able to do a TeamViewer?

Thanks

Could you please send your teamviewer details to support@voidtools.com

In the meantime, could you please check if your Everything.exe is signed:
  • In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Everything
  • Right click your Everything.exe and click Properties.
  • Click the Digital Signatures tab.
  • Make sure the Name of signer is voidtools
  • Click Details.
  • Make sure the digital signature information says:
    This digital signature is OK.

Hi Void,

I am still not getting Everything to work,

I have tried Opruimen - no luck.

I have also tried to uninstall the previous version 12.06.2018 and install an update.

Even though I click on Uninstall it does not uninstall.

Could please help me this again.

I have sent TeamViewer details.

Thanks
Ken

The issue was caused by Avast Cleanup

Avast Cleanup has set itself as the debugger for a few applications:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=209981.0

Deleting the following key in the Registry Editor fixed the issue:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\Everything.exe

Thanks for your help Ken.
