Everything not allowing sent to email receipient

Post by fibonacci »

Hi Void
All previous versions prior 1.4.1.922 allowed me to search for files and then rightmouse click from Everything search results on the file and "send to recipient" which would open up outlook email ready with file attached to send.

922 does not allow this anymore. I am running Windows 7-64. Nothing has changed other than installing most reent version of Everything.

I've tried the following:
- tried run as service or run as admin both times rebooting
- tried uninstalling and reinstalling again to no avail

Please help as i need to be able to perform the above function i.e. right-mouse click from Everything search results on the file and "send to recipient"

Cheers

"send to recipient" is working ok for me with Everything 1.4.1.922 x86/x64

The following changes were made to the Everything right click / context menu (v895 -> v922):
  • Fixed an issue with popup context menu items below a menu separator not appearing.
  • The Everything Open/Explore context menu items are set as the default menu items if the replaced Windows Open/Explorer menu items were the default.
  • Fixed an issue when the context menu was empty.
Is the "send to recipient" option missing completely for you? or does it do nothing when you click on it?

Is your mail client already running? is it running as administrator?

Can you please confirm Everything is running as a standard user:
In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
/debug

What is shown towards the top of the debug console? -you should see something like:
IsAdmin 0

To close the debug console:
In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
/debug

Does the "send to recipient" right click menu option work in Windows Explorer?

IsAdmin 1
Everything is running as administrator which might be causing the issue..

Could you please try disabling "Run this program as an administrator":
  • Right click your Everything shortcut or Everything.exe
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab.
  • Uncheck Run this program as an administrator.
  • Click OK.
  • Restart Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
Could you please try running Everything as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Everything service.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Click OK.
  • Restart Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
Could you please make sure your Email client is not running before clicking on "send to recipient".

disabling "Run this program as an administrator": did not fix it

try running Everything as a standard user: did not fix

with outlook closed
when rightmouse click sent to recipient outlook would open and then close i.e. do nothing.

with outlook open somehtign would flash fast but no new email ready to send attachment.

Did you completely exit Everything when restarting Everything?
Did you change both settings that will launch Everything as an administrator?

Please check your Everything.ini in the same location as your Everything.exe
Please make sure the following setting is set to zero:
run_as_admin=0

Re: Everything not allowing sent to email receipient

yes i did change both settings and each time exited from Everything.

here is first few lines of INI

[Everything]
run_as_admin=0
allow_http_server=1
allow_etp_server=1
window_x=198
window_y=198
window_wide=785
window_high=650
maximized=0
minimized=0
fullscreen=0
ontop=0

In v921 general settings are different
Run as admin is checked
Everything service is checked but greyed
Show Everything in context menu is checked but greyed

Could you please try the portable version of Everything 922:
  • Completely exit any running version of Everything.
  • Extract the portable version of Everything 922 to a new folder.
  • Launch the portable Everything.exe as admin.
  • Does the "send to recipient" context menu item work?

ok did as you said and portable 922 did not work

i went to options/general and found "run as admin" was unchecked so i checked it and restarted everything.
still did not work

by the way - options/general / everything service and show context are both checked but greyed just as they in 921

The only thing that has changed between 921 and 922 is a new code signing certificate.

It could be this new certificate causing the issue, although it seems unlikely.

What anti-virus program are you using? perhaps this version is triggering something?
i went to options/general and found "run as admin" was unchecked so i checked it and restarted everything.
still did not work
Please try coping Everything.exe to a new folder, this time, please make sure you:
  • Completely exit any existing Everything instance.
  • right click the Everything.exe and click Run as administrator.
I wonder if there's some strange DDE transaction that is stuck.
What happens if you restart your Computer?
by the way - options/general / everything service and show context are both checked but greyed just as they in 921
This is normal, the service and context menu items are partially installed (installed with your original 922 and since the Everything.exe paths do not match the check box is square checked, allowing you to uninstall the option or install it with the correct Everything.exe path.)

What version of Office are you running?

ok i think i found a major revelation

portable version of 921x86 is what i was using and that worked!!!

portable version of 921x64 does not work.

so now for the ultimate test to D/L 922x86 portable and see if that works.

Something must be off with the shell extension that "send to recipient" is calling.
Office will most likely have both x86 and x64 shell extensions.
Everything x86 will call the x86 shell extension, while Everything x64 will call the x64 shell extension.

Currently setting up Office 2010 on a Windows 7 x64 vm, I will get back to you.

i have an office laptop running Win7-64 with Microsoft Office2010. As a test i downloaded the portable version of 922x64.

it presented the same issue. i.e. Send to will not open up a new email from outlook.

So i downloaded 922x86 portable. And that works.

So i thought to go back to v894x64 and install that. And it works. The send to will open up an outlook new email with file attached ready to send.

Two different machines exhibit the same bug from what i can tell so far the x64 versions of 921 and 922 but not the x86 version.

I appreciate that other mail clients may work but so far Microsoft Outlook 2010 definitely has issues.

Thanks for waiting..

I haven't had any luck getting this to not work..

I've tried the following without any issues:
Office 2010 SP2 x86 / Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 / Everything 1.4.1.922 x64
Office 2010 SP2 x86 / Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 / Everything 1.4.1.922 x86
Office 2010 SP2 x64 / Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 / Everything 1.4.1.922 x64
Office 2010 SP2 x64 / Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 / Everything 1.4.1.922 x86

In all cases right clicking a file in Everything and clicking Send to -> Send to recipient will open up a new outlook message with the file attached.

It seems odd that older versions of Everything x64 will work for you, and the newer ones will not..

Could you please try Everything 1.4.1.903 x64.
I have a suspicion that Everything 1.4.1.904 and later are causing issues running shell extensions with the introduction of NXCOMPAT flag and improved security with stack cookie checks /GS.

Thank you Void for doing all that testing and persisting to resolve my issue.

I can happily say that 903x64 works!! yes it works!
However i also tested 904x64 and as you stated it did not work.

Is there something weird with my windows or office setup that is contributing to this issue. Just strange that my PC and my laptop both different builds at different times experience the same issue. And why x86 builds will work but not x64.

Cheers

Thanks for testing this.

Please try Everything 1.4.1.923.
I have undone the 903->904 changes.

No, it is most likely Everything as Office is working fine from Windows Explorer and older versions of Everything.

I also have this problem. Selecting a file and going to "send to mail recipient" appears like it will attach but nothing happens. Doing same in Windows explorer does work correctly opening a new mail and attaching the file. I'm using Windows11 Pro, Outlook 2019 Professional Plus, Everything 1.5.0 1300A x64. Tried both as admin and normal but still nothing happens. Any suggestions?

UPDATE SOLVED SORTOF: I tried installing older versions, both x86 and x64. Finally got to 1.4.1.1016 x86 as well as x64. These both worked as they are supposed to. Locating a file then using Send To Mail Recipient worked just fine. I really don't know where this version falls in terms of how old it might be I just know that it works. BUT, I really miss the Folders List in version 1.5.0 1300a x64.

No issue here on Windows 10 21H1 with Everything 1.4.0.1015 or Everything 1.5.0.1300a.
No issue here on Windows 11 21H2 with Everything 1.4.0.1015 or Everything 1.5.0.1300a.

Please make sure Everything is running as a standard user.
Otherwise, you will see the following:

You need to create a Microsoft Outlook profile. In Microsoft Windows, go to the Control Panel and open Mail. Click Show Profiles, and then click Add.

To make sure Everything is installed correctly:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
