Among the keyboard shortcuts (Menu:Tools > Options > Keyboard) I can configure one for "File | Preview".
What should it do?
It's not or showing the preview pane (that's "View | Preview" (*)) and pressing the configured shortcut has no visible effect.
(*) I have added a <space> (Result list) for "View | Preview". That way I can quickly view a file by pressing the spacebar. Next press removes the preview pane. I like it a lot this way.

File | Preview should execute the selected files with the preview verb.

That would explain it. On my system the Preview verb is only available for fonts (they do not have the normal "Open" verb).
And I didn't test with fonts. But after testing again: working!
