Because you don't have it indexed.

Tools | Options | Indexes -> Index date created (& then maybe also, Fast date created sort)

Logically, CREATION is a special case of MODIFICATION, isn't it?

They're handled separately.

Most typically, I would think, most deal with Modified.
Created less so.

When a file is created, Date Modified & Date Created are set to the same value.
