C Drive No Longer Included in Results
C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Suddenly Everything isn't displaying C drive files, so now a search for "Dorothy Parker.odt" returns only the external hard drives:
though there is definitely a Dorothy Parker.odt file in C.
A search for C:\ Dorothy Parker.odt returns nothing:
If I specify C:\ almost all of the files returned are C:\Users\myname . .
and vast numbers of files on C:\ are not listed.
I've searched Tools > Options with no luck
though there is definitely a Dorothy Parker.odt file in C.
A search for C:\ Dorothy Parker.odt returns nothing:
If I specify C:\ almost all of the files returned are C:\Users\myname . .
and vast numbers of files on C:\ are not listed.
I've searched Tools > Options with no luck
Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Check the Search menu.
Do you have Enable Regex, enabled, for instance?
Do you have a Filter enabled?
Tools | Options -> Indexes => Exclude?

Hi therube ~
<<Check the Search menu. Do you have Enable Regex, enabled, for instance? >>
I didn't have Regex enabled. When I enabled it, entering C:\ in the search box returns no files.
<<Do you have a Filter enabled?>>
No, I have no filters.
I have nothing in Tools | Options -> Indexes => Exclude

Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
try to look at indexes & NTFS tabs in Options.
NTFS - Select C drive, and ensure "include in database" is enabled.
Indexes - Force Reuild

Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Thanks therube,and Stamimail and NotNull
The problem has resolved itself by uninstalling and re-installing. That had been the first thing I did when the problem first arose, and I'm guessing it didn't work then because I didn't fully ininstall (with Revo Uninstaller) before re-installing.
In any case things are working fine now, many thanks for your help which enlightened me about several features

Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Well, I'm still having problems. Yesterday everything worked fine . . today opening Search Everything shows this
and farther down this:
Entering just C:\ in the search box returns only one folder:
And I've tried unsuccessfully to activate "search as you type":
but when I start typing nothing is returned:
Help will be much appreciated!!

Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
I again uninstalled and reinstalled and Everything's working fine now.
Oddly, I think the problem (this is just a wild guess, I'm an amateur at this stuff) may be associated with Windows 10's recent shutdown problem, in which WinKey-X-U-U causes restart instead of shutdown. That problem led me for several days to shut down with the power switch, which may have fouled up Everything's record-keeping. Just a guess

Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Certainly not a good thing to do.for several days to shut down with the power switch
Certainly possible.which may have fouled up Everything's record-keeping
What you might look to do if you end up in the same situation again, is instead of reinstalling, try a Forced Rebuild of the Index & see if that alone is enough to straighten things out.
(Tools | Options | Indexes -> Force Rebuild)
Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Definitely resolved: it was caused by the powered USB hub. If I power down the hub before shutting down, both the Everything problem and the WinKey-U-U shutdown problem disappear. All working fine now.
Re: C Drive No Longer Included in Results
Well done! Never would have guessed that an USB hub could cause Everything problems ...
BTW: I like your Everything color scheme. I think I'm going to steal that from you
