Indexes every file on laptop
Indexes every file on laptop
I recently installed Everything on a new laptop. When I start the pgm, it lists every file on my machine including files of the OS which are normally hidden. How can I hide all of them? Any advice will be most helpful.
Re: Indexes every file on laptop
To exclude hidden and system files from your Everything index:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Exclude tab on the left.
- Check Exclude hidden files and folders.
- Check Exclude system files and folders.
- Click OK.
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Exclude tab on the left.
- Click Add Folder....
- Select C:\Windows and click OK.
- Click OK.

Thanks for the info. I tried what you recommended several times and nothing has changed. Amy other ideas?
Re: Indexes every file on laptop
Could you please give an example of an OS file that is normally hidden but showing in Everything?
Are results in C:\Windows still showing in your results?

Another route would be to start Everything with an empty result list. As soon as you start typing in the search bar, only matching results will be shown.
This can be done through Menu:Tools > Options > Results : Enable Hide results when search is empty

You can always exclude any directories you do not want to see.
