Question about clicking within search bar

Post by paulhurm »

I have already put a search string into the search bar and gotten results.

Now I want to change the search a bit by adding another term onto the end.

When I click in the search bar, even though I click in the white area to the right of the previous search phrase, it highlights the entire existing phrase.

When I click as above, I would like the cursor to immediately go the the end of the string that is already there rather than highlighting it.

Is there a setting I am missing that will force this behaviour?

TIA

To position the caret instead of selecting all the text when clicking on the search edit:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /select_search_on_mouse_click=0
To select all the text, you can click just above or just below the search edit or triple click the search edit.

To restore the default behavior, that is selecting all the text when clicking on the search edit:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /select_search_on_mouse_click=1

Maybe I goofed but things are now worse.

I clicked into the empty search box at the top and entered:
/select_search_on_mouse_click=0

Just to be sure, I exited the program and restarted.

I then entered "PWH" (no quotes) and get no results at all. I have tons of folders and files that contain PWH as part of the name so a null result is a problem.

I then entered
/select_search_on_mouse_click=1
and restarted but this did not correct the above problem.

After either of the steps above I did get some "default" results but they were very limited and If I recall were from only one folder. Previously, when I would first open the program and with the default blank search bar showing I got a very large result.

For grins I then went and rebuilt the index which was a solution to a problem I had before but this did not help. In fact when I close and reopen and am presented with the blank search bar, I now get no results at all.

What did I do wrong??

Paul

STOP!!

I don't understand this but it is now working.

It did do the behavior as described but I typed the previous reply and then realized that the reindexing had probably not had time to finish. Some time as I was typing the previous reply it seems to have started working because when I posted the reply and could see the Everything window again it had results.

I then toggled the command you suggested between 0 and 1 several times and they worked as expected/explained without any problem so I don't really know whether the reindex had any effect or what all else came into play but again, as explained in the earlier post there was a span of time where it did not work but it then later did (and still does, I just checked again.

In any event, I will put this technique into my notes for future reference and hope Murphy stays away for a while!
