"Dimensions" column and Win Picture Viewer integration?

Post by spinmonk »

I should start to say this program is basically magic. It's too fast and small to really be doing what it does so I'd just like to thank you for using your magic powers for good instead of evil. :)

Of all the features I'm most in need of is locking in a removable drive's database for offline viewing. I used a laptop with several removable drives and being able to browse them instead of plugging them in individually will be incredible. I see it is on your todo list so just consider this an another anxious person who is rooting for you to continue. Sent in a donation to help.

A few things that might also make this a little more handy for my purposes may be possible without a ton of effort. One is a function built into the basic WinXP explorer and that is the "Dimensions" column. This is of use when searching for images and many types of video files because you can tell at a glance what the quality of it is. If it would be possible to add this to the optional columns (for that matter I'm sure that people might get value from the other column options available in WinXP Explorer) it would continue to add to the value without cluttering things up for people that don't need it.

The other thing that would extend the value of Everything is to incorporate the same kind of integration with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer that the default Search option included in WinXP has. If you use the basic Search for image files, you'll get a list of images from all over your hard drive. But if you click on an image and then go to "next image" or "previous" image it will cycle among files from the search result, not the next image in the directory. This is a seriously useful integration of search because you can search for common filename subjects or other features and then immediately find the image you want. I have no idea if this is even possible or how the default Search allows it to happen but if there's any way to emulate this behavior it would put Everything over and above. For a somewhat similar discussion of the behavior check this out: http://en.irfanview-forum.de/vb/showthread.php?t=5142
I don't know if they do this with some kind of virtual folder or what. Even if it was just a right click option for an image that said "open search results in image viewer" or something that would be fine I think.

Regardless of these feature requests, just want to say thanks and keep up the good work. Easily one of the best programs I've found and it has made using WinXP so much easier that I delayed getting Vista or Win7 because Everything was doing much of the things an upgrade would provide. Good work, and thanks!

I am currently working on custom file lists, which will allow indexing of any folder.
With this, you will be able to build a list of files on your laptop and include it in "Everything" for offline viewing.

Implementing all the columns available in Explorer is on my "Things to do" list..
Thumbnail view is also on my "Things to do" list.

Thanks for your support.
