Is this correct behavior?

Post by salazor »

I'm looking today for "rc:sat" - 0 results, but "rc:2017/06/10" or "rc:lastsat" works fine.

Is this correct behavior?

It depends on your locale settings for "first day of the week".

Everything will either be looking for Saturday in the future, or the last Saturday.

To adjust the first day of the week:
  • From the Start menu, open the Control panel.
  • Open Region and Language.
  • Click the Formats tab.
  • Click Additional settings....
  • Click the Date tab.
  • Select the First day of the week.
  • Click Ok.
  • Click Ok.
It would make sense for Everything to always look into the past. I'll consider changing this.

In XP it does not see this setting - First day of the week.

And why does Everything look to the future? - I could not write files with date 2017/06/24 - because that day was not yet. Bypassing the manual date modification, unless it is logical that he should look back.

On XP the first day of the week is fixed as Sunday.

Everything tries to mimic natural language.
Today is Tuesday, when I say Wednesday, that is most commonly taken as tomorrow.
Last Wednesday would be the Wednesday last week.

And why does Everything look to the future?

For the reason above, to mimic natural language. Is it useful? not really.. That's why I will consider always looking into the past with day names, for example, if today is Tuesday and you search for dm:wednesday Everything would assume you mean dm:lastwednesday

But if for example someone learn in the university only in Wednesday's,
he will try to search dm:wednesday to get all wednesday's and not just the lastwednesday.

dm:wednesday will only search for wednesday this week, not every wednesday.

For the best results, use dm:last<dayname>
