run as a service

Post by fpefpe »

Hello -- I have been running everything as an admin ... but now realized that only the admin id can use it -- I would now
like to run it as a service so other id's can use it --

what is the best way to update the install to a service?

The Everything service can be installed/uninstalled from within Everything:

To install the Everything service:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Everything Service.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Click OK.
You can now run Everything with any standard user account.

hello -- thanks for for the info ... worked great ... just one issue --

since the original install was done as admin, "everything" only appeared in start list for that user ---

when I when to the second id -- there was no entry in the start list for everything -- I did get it to
run by type the exact path for 'everything.exe"

so, get it to appear in the "all users" start menu I have to re-install? thx

You can move the .lnk from your personal startmenu to the common startmenu for all users.

Your personal startmenu is located here :%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
The startmenu for all users is located here: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

You can toggle the start menu shortcuts and desktop shortcuts from within Everything:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Desktop shortcuts.
  • Check Start menu shortcuts.
  • Click OK.
Unfortunately, you will have to manually start Everything from the new users account to enable these settings.
