Communicate with remote Everything

Post by adem0x »

Currently, using Everything on remote shares is slow --very slow.

To avoid doing that, I usually have to resort to using RDP to connect to remote PC and use Everything under RDP.

This works, but if I need to search more than one remote share (on different PCs) it becomes just as painful to guess which one to connect with RDP to save time.

I was wondering if a feature could be added to Everything such that I could configure them (i.e. more than one Everything) to connect & communicate with remote everything for search.

Naturally, in this scenario, I wouldn't expect Everything to have all the features it does under local usage --i.e. none/most of the context menu need not be functional.

I think it would be great if it could be done.

And, last but not least: Thank you for Everything. It is a great helper.

Have you tried an ETP connection?

ETP uses very little bandwidth.

Wow!

ETP Server is just what I was looking for.

I have a small issue: I wasn't able to use sharename (e.g. //MYSHARE/) to connect to the remote PC. I had to use IP address. Is this by design, or did I do something wrong?

One other issue: When I connect to the ETP server, my local Everything displays only the search results from the remote PC.

Is there a way I can get it to display the results of local search as well --i.e. agregated?

On a related topic: Can I connect to more than one ETP server and have Everything display the results of local search as well as all the remote machines?

You will most likely need to setup ETP path rewriting.

Currently Everything can only search one database at a time.
While connected to your ETP server, create a new window to search your local PC.
