bug with instances and lag opening files

Post by comprehensible »

I have installed the Fantastic VoidTools ES multiple times, and sometimes it installs fine: I can open multiple windows as standard (very useful to have 2-3) and when i double click an MP3 file it opens...

Sometimes it installs wrong: I can only open one instance of Everything.exe and when i double click an MP3 file it takes 20 seconds to play... I can drag it to the player instantly, it's only if i click the file in everything.exe I have to wait 20 seconds for it to start playing...

These two bugs seem to always happen concurrently. i have encountered the same issue on two pc's.

What am i doing wrong? I wish to have multiple instances and instant mp3's.

When this occurs, if you open Windows Explorer (from Everything) to the file first, & then open the file from Windows Explorer, does the same delay exist?

Thanks for the suggestion, i just noticed that the time delay for opening mp3 files was only for mp3 and not for avi and text, it was only happening with winamp. so i changed the extension to another program and it opened instantly, then i changed it back to winamp and i swear it took at least 10 seconds... and then i clicked various mp3 files and they were reading instantly, which is the first time i have been able to click on an mp3 file since i installed VoidTools...

Being experienced in computing, i figure that i fixed the problem when i changed file association back and forth from winamp, although what kind of registry confusion can make a 20 second lag in a program making an application call, i don't know... then when i retested with the new file association i think i had to wake a drive first time and it took 10 seconds and other than that, the delay error is fixed.

perhaps the multiple instances of voidtools on the previous pc was because i didnt mark it as.. use as administrator... is that what happens? thanks so much!

Delay when opening mp3 files with Winamp
It might be an issue with launching the files as administrator.

Please try installing the Everything service and make sure you run the client without administrative privileges.
