This problem is happening in Everything 1.3.4.686 (x64). The same thing happens in the 32-bit version. These are very stable installations that have been in use for months.
Suddenly, however, I cannot use wildcards to search for all files with a given file name extension, e.g., all WAV, PDF, MP3, etc. A search using [*.FILE EXTENSION] produces zero results, regardless of what extension is used.
If I just enter the file extension as the search term, without the [*.], the files with that extension are located, along with all other file names with a path including that string, and can be viewed in a group if the search results are sorted by extension.
I've successfully done searches like this hundreds of times, through all versions of Everything. Now, suddenly, the capability is gone, although I did not knowingly change any of Everything's settings.
Does anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong--and how to get it working again?
Wildcard searches for file extensions suddenly fail
Re: Wildcard searches for file extensions suddenly fail
Please make sure Regex is disabled from the Search menu.
Re: Wildcard searches for file extensions suddenly fail
Well, that did it!
I've hardly ever even looked at the possibilities in the drop-down menus, so I'm not sure how the "Enable Regex" option got checked in the "Search" menu--but I'm glad you knew to check there.
Thank you very much.
