I love using Everything - use it all the time.
After the critical update on Windows on Monday, the Everything taskbar thumbnail disappeared. I get a thumbnail if I put a shortcut on my desktop, but I run all of my high-rotation software from the taskbar and it suddenly looks terrible. I am guessing that the Windows update didn't have anything to do with this, but I did have to restart and hadn't restarted in a while, so maybe an issue cropped up on restart?
This is a screencast screenshot of the icon on the desktop and what the icon is now doing on the taskbar: http://screencast.com/t/3zWIYTOg25
I've tried dragging the icon to the taskbar, sending it to the taskbar, etc, but all I get is this ugly, broken graphic. I downloaded the most up-to-date version of Everything and installed that, and the issue is the same.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro (fully updated) 64-bit. Big, grunty computer - 16 GB ram, Pentium i7 Quad-Core, etc.
This is a small problem, but it's annoying the crap out of me. Any suggestions?
Taskbar thumbnail is broken
Re: Taskbar thumbnail is broken
Can NOT confirm this for fully patched Windows 8.1 x64 and actual Everything.
The Taskbar icon is still correct after the latest MS emergency patch.

Re: Taskbar thumbnail is broken
Try clearing your thumbnail cache (which I'm not sure how to do offhand).
(Once you tell us how, maybe I'll bother to correct some of my misbehaving, not Everything, icons .)

Re: Taskbar thumbnail is broken
Not happening to me either on Win 7 64 bits with the fix, but you might try this:
Shut down Everything
Right click on the bad icon on the taskbar and select Unpin this program from taskbar - Does it go away?
Start Everything - there should be an Everything icon on the taskbar
Right click the Everything icon and select pin this program to taskbar

How to Clear and Reset Thumbnail Cache in Windows
I'll try it on my end, when I get a chance, & let you know how it went.

You want to clear the Icon cache for this problem - thumbnails are small versions of pictures - gif's,etc.
Icons are furnished by the application in exe's or dll's.
sevenforums does have an icon cache clearing tutorial.

Heh, OK, thanks.
How to Rebuild the Icon Cache in Windows
Deleting was simple enough.
Will have to wait on the reboot though... until I get around to it.
Well, a couple icons that before I couldn't make "stick", now do persist after changing the icon.
(Reboot will still have to wait.)
