I am moving from an older Windows 7 laptop to a new one. I remember that I had a terrible time getting Everything to run right on the old machine, but I've forgotten how I finally did it. Now, I can't figure out how to get it to work right on the new machine.
There are two problems, following installation using the install file I downloaded. First, I get prompted to enter my password every time the machine is booted - I can't figure out how to get UAC to stop that. I changed the settings for everything.exe to run as administrator, but that didn't help. Secondly, it pops up a message every time saying that I need to install Microsoft .net Version 2. However, that is ancient and the machine is already running a much newer version of .net - and I don't even know how one would get and install Version 2 today, or if it would interfere with or replace the newer version that is needed for other things.
Can someone please tell me how to install it and get past these problems, in clear and complete terms? It really seems that this should be in the FAQ or on the download page. (and it really seems like the install itself should work in such a way that it simply works without these problems.)
I love this program and rely on it every day. I'm very frustrated by the difficulty getting it installed and working cleanly.

Installing Everything
> I get prompted to enter my password every time the machine is booted
Do you have Everything set to start up on computer boot up?
If so disable that, reboot & see if anything changes.
(Options | General -> Start Everything on system startup)
If the UAC prompt still occurs, it is not due to Everything.
Could be something or anything but not Everything.
> I need to install Microsoft .net Version 2
Wasn't aware, particularly, that Everything relies on .Net?
Does it? Or is it some other application that wants .Net?
Not certain, but it could be that .Net 4 does not handle anything lower, so you might need like 3.5 to cover 2 - if it is needed at all. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloa ... aspx?id=22

Please see:First, I get prompted to enter my password every time the machine is booted

Something is fishy here.Secondly, it pops up a message every time saying that I need to install Microsoft .net Version 2
Everything does not use .net
