Today I tried to search for a file name in the same way that I usually do. Everything didn't do anything at all. No message at the bottom about searching the C drive, nothing. But I know for sure the files are there. I'm looking to see if a file in one directory is a duplicate of a file in another directory (which it probably is).
Downloaded the latest program update, but got the same result. I am baffled, as it was working fine the last time I used it.
suddenly Everything doesn't work...
Re: suddenly Everything doesn't work...
This can occur when there is an issue with indexing one volume.
Possibly an external volume in a unsupported state (I hope to fix this in a future release).
Please check your volumes for errors.
Please try rebuilding your Everything index:

Re: suddenly Everything doesn't work...
Nothing works. Rebuilding the index doesn't happen. Then I found that the Windows search index wasn't working. Fixed that. But Everything still doesn't work, same as before. Doesn't rebuild the index either. This program was so reliable until now.
Re: suddenly Everything doesn't work...
Please make sure the following search menu options are disabled:
What is displayed in the debug console after forcing a index rebuild from Tools -> Options -> Indexes -> Force Rebuild.
- Match case
- Match whole word
- Match path
- Match Diacritics
- Regex

Thank you a lot void. After 3 years this solution worked for me too. We love you VOID.void wrote:This can occur when there is an issue with indexing one volume.

Re: suddenly Everything doesn't work...
You can reduce this problem which happens a lot when you insert ntfs formatted usb devices.
By excluding the drive letters your usb devices commonly get assigned.
I deliberately map all my drive letters so I can predict where USB devices will be assigned, then exclude those drive letters.
I hope this helps others.
Of course an option to ignore usb/transient drive letters would be nice as well.
Yes I have the 'automatically include new removable volumes' unchecked, but if they are ntfs formatted, they get picked up anyway a lot of the time.
