Everything except video files?

Post by phototaker »

I only came across this program a couple of days back & maybe I did something to set it up incorrectly.

I plugged a couple of my USB drives into PC first. Everything is NTFS. I can locate most things almost instantly except for all of my video files. These never show up at all. I'm not seeing any listings for the following type files, ave,mpeg,m2ts,divx,vob,mkv, etc, etc. This list goes on. Did I miss some setting or doesn't the program not cater for these type files?

Thanks in advance

Everything should index all file types, unless you change the include only/exclude settings in Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

Removable NTFS volumes are not included by default.

Please check if your USB drives are included in your index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab.
  • Select your USB drive.
  • Check Include in database.
  • Click OK.
Was your USB drive included?

Sorry for not getting back sooner but we had the grand kids staying on with .us

I have in the exclude list only hidden, system & enable exclude list ticked noting else.

The internal HDD's are are all NTFS. I also have some USB 2 & 3 drives that I use but they aren't plugged in they are also formatted NTFS.

I have asked the program to index Everything now but still I can't see any video files of any type.

Under folders all I have nominated are the drive letters D.E.F. I have asked for an Update now. I know that least one folder on a drive has several hundred video files yet nothing shows up.

Is there anything else that I should try?

Thanks in advance

Please make sure the Everything filter is selected from the Search menu.

Search -> Everything

EVERYTHING is working well & is picking up the video files. Every search shows every entry on twice. Is this something else that I missed?

Please remove duplicated indexes from Tools -> Options -> Indexes -> Folders.

These folders are most likely already index in Tools -> Options -> Indexes -> NTFS.

As I said in the previous posting I'm now getting all of my video files. At least the normal ones that have the well known files extensions. The video editing software that I use also creates several different temp files each time that I use the program. Is there any way to add these files extensions to what Everything would normally regard as a video file?

Thanks in advance

Search | Organize Filters...
Edit the Video filter, adding those additional extensions you're wanting.

I finally got the time to go back to this. I look at the filters to add extra extensions. The all appear to have extension followed by ; the the 3 aphpa for each extension. I added 2 more to end of list.

I thought that the program might update itself when the PC rebooted but it didn't. Do I have delete the programs database & ask it to create it again from scratch? The new extensions are on a USB3 NTFS formatted drive.

Thanks in advance

So is it a problem of not seeing any files on this USB3 drive or is it just not seeing the newly added extensions (only) from that USB3 drive.

For the latter, create a new file on your HDD with the extension & see if its seen.

If its seen, then you're newly added extension is correct.

Then its just a matter of it not seeing your USB3 drive.
So you'd need to check Options | Indexes |NTFS & check the settings there.
