Search in-file

Post by Kyo »

Hi!

I have been using Everything lately and love it's features, I wanted to know if a search-in-file could be implemented, something like the one found in Locate:

Content searching will be available in the next release of Everything.

At the moment it is just a search function, I need to work on the UI some more..

void, if you plan to implement the content search with indexing, will you give us an option to disable the content search completely? I'm asking this because I'm (and others too probably) are using another software for that which I like pretty much, and if I decide to stay with that software for that, and not migrate to yours, then the indexing would be quite expensive and totaly unneceseary.

cheers

Content will be read as needed for the next release.
Content will not be indexed in the next release, that may come in a future release of Everything.
Of course it would be optional if/when I do implement it.

Searching by content would be nice, as long as it does not slow down in any way the file/path name searching. When I do need to search by content, I use XYplorer and the set of locations I want to search is usually more targeted and only a small subset of what I search by name in Everything.

If you ever did add indexing, hopefully that would be an option so one could still do non-indexed content searching. I've found indexing-based search tools to be very cumbersome with so many drives that I attach and detach all the time.
