Start with Windows

Post by ifficles »

Hello All,

First a little background information. I'm using win7 x64, with Zonelabs AV + firewall. Now, before I upgrade to the next version, I always remove the previous version, reboot, and do a fresh install. Before I do the installation, I always disable the anti virus + firewall, as the firewall blocks some of the processes. When I install, everything gets up to 99%, hangs for about 5 seconds, and then states "failed to execute user command." Here's where it gets a little hinky, when I look at the options I see that "Start Everything on system startup" is checked", but yet is does not load. Any thoughts?

Thanks

failed to execute user command.
The Everything installer failed to run Everything.exe from the temp folder.
This could be due to your anti virus software blocking applications from running from the temp folder?
Please try copying the portable version to your desired installation folder.

Everything is most likely blocked from running on start-up.
This could be due to your anti virus software blocking applications from running at start-up?

Please Check if Everything is installed as a run on start-up application:
  • From the start menu, click Run.
  • Run Regedit
  • Locate:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
  • Is Everything listed?

Hello there void,

I followed you instructions, and here's what shows at that location in the registry, "D:\Program Files\Everything\Everything.exe" -startup" ... Also, just some information, before I install a new version, I shut off my anti virus & firewall. thanks for the help

Hello there Admin,

I think I found a solution to the startup problem. When installing the app, I ran the exe as an admin this time. Yea, no error messages popped up. So I think that fixed the issues, and call this thread done. Thanks for the help, it was much appreciated. :D 8-)

Hello again,

Well, I guess I was wrong. Running the app as admin did clear out the error message. But everything still does not run at start-up. I've verified that the reg-key is there, and the option to run everything at start-up is checked. So, for now, I'll create a shortcut in the start-up folder, that way it'll run.

Thanks

Hello out there,

Well I've found another bug that goes with my original problem. But it may be a separate issue. Here's what happens. If I've got "everything" as a link in the quick launch. After I run the program as an admin, the icon displayed in the taskbar is the windows generic/blank icon. Now if I exit the program, remove the quick launch link, then rerun "everything" the icon that is displayed in the taskbar is the one that is built into the program. How strange is that?

Boggled yet?
