I have a 4 TB USB HDD, which shows high temperature (S.M.A.R.T. data).
I can open some of the files on it, but some others show CRC failure.

I have not tried to open the other files, lest I should end up damaging the disk.
As a precaution, I have disconnected the disk and kept it aside safely.

Yes, the documentation is there, and the greatest hits thread does help.
But both are not optimized for rapid discovery.
(For example, the "top hits" list is not part of the TOC. It should be!)

Another change needed is to introduce a subject first, and only then add nuanced topics about that subject.

BTW I use both Sumatrapdf and Oracle VT with FreeCommander (with sLister and uLister wrappers), and they provide all the functionality I listed.

So it would be great indeed if Everything supports wlx.

Well, this is a design choice. The user is not concerned with this issue!
At the end of the day, we should be able to check out all file types in the quickviewer.

IINW some people make a distinction between "Viewer", "QuickViewer" and "previewer".
I am not sure if that applies here ...

The problem may be that SumatraPDF by default doesn't show .epub files.
In Total Commander, this is solved by the config for SLister, which sets all file types it should display.

2. I unzipped the contents of wlx2Explorer archive in this folder.

For viewing EPUB files, the Oracle viewers are useless,
they don't contain a viewer for this file type.
So, only the TC SumatraPDF wlx/wlx64 viewer is applicable.

ULister and the Oracle viewers are fine for doc and docx formats
and many others of course.

The problem was due to two lines (line#75 and 76) in the ini file:

I thought that they would do nothing because I had not entered any value in them.

Yes, I had raised this doubt to Uwe (the developer of USBDLM). He also pointed this out.

I did that, and now the drive letters are assigned consistently.
But each drive gets the wrong letter assigned to it.

Use the tool USBDLM.


I checked out the app.
From this Youtube video , it appears that the process is quite laborious.
I have to insert each disk, find out its ID, and copy it in the ini file of USBDLM.
Then I have to assign a unique letter to it.

I have to repeat this for each disk one by one ...

I want Everything to remember all offline HDDs, not remove the contents the moment they are disconnected.
In fact, there is a direct benefit of this: I can search for all files/folders without connecting the HDDs each time.
That means I have to plug in a HDD only if I want to read that file ...

I have 5 HDDs.
I must assign them with drive letters because that's how FreeCommander bookmarks work.
I have put stickers on all HDDs with their drive letters, so that when Everything finds the file I want, I can plug in the right HDD ...

I changed the setting, and the problem got resolved completely.

For example, I can search like this:

pdf|epub stakeholder|game

Both pipes work correctly.

This shows me files that have either of these terms.
All files having pdf and epub extensions are listed.

Yes, ESC was bound to File|Exit.

File|Close was already bound to another hotkey: CTRL+SHFT+W.
I added ESC to that, and now everything works fine.

I just discovered a much simpler case:

So I do not have to do anything inside Everything to crash it: Just pressing ESC is enough!
This kills the threads.
After that, both hotkeys (CTRL+SpaceBar and SHFT+CTRL+SpaceBar) cannot launch a window.
The only way to launch Everything is by clicking ...

Just to clarify, my typical workflow was-

1. Select string in a browser
2. CTRL+C
3. CTRL+SpaceBar - To launch Everything window
4. SHFT+CTRL+V - To paste the string w/o punctuation in Everything window
5. ESC - To dismiss Everything

The next course of action is to examine debug logs to try and work out what is going on:

In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, click Start Debug Logging.
from another program, hit your Everything hotkey.

I checked the dumps folder. It has several dump files generated over last one month.
These are created mainly by msteamsupdate.exe and one file is created by explorer.exe.
But there's none by Everything.

Right now, I do not know if the problem got resolved.

So, when the hotkey is working, the Task Manager shows 3/4 lines of Everything processes.
They may be running in the foreground or background.
But when the hotkey fails, there are only two lines, both running in the background.
